In this paper, results of the recuperation of 11 strains of Volvariel/a volvacea (Bull: Fr.) Sing. stored in
liquid nitrogen are given. For cryopreservation, the mycelia were inoculated on seed of millet and two varieties
of sorghum and put in cryovials and placed in contact with a cryoprotector solution of dimethyl sulfoxide
(DMSO) 5% for 30, 60 and 90 min. The strains were maintained in liquid nitrogen for two weeks. The samples
were then thawed out and mycelial recuperation evaluated by daily observations under the microscope. The
millet seeds with 60 and 90 minutes of contact with DSMO proved to be the best treatments for strain
cryopreservation.
