One hundred and thirty species of macromycetes (9 Ascomycotina, 4 Tremellales,
30 Aphyllophorals, 5 Boletales, 70 Agaricales and 12 Gasteromycetes) were recorded from
Cerro El Zamorano, situated between the states of Queretaro and Guanajuato, Mexico.
Previously only 16 species of macromycetes were know in this region. The vegetation in this
zone is formed by forests of Quercus, Abies religiosa and A. religiosa mixed with Quercus. Fifty
five species are edible, although only Clavulina amethystina and Lycoperdon perlatum are
used for the farmers of the region. It is interesting to notice that Neotropical fungi were found
in this region, as Daldinia concentrica, Hexagonia hydnoides, Hydnopolyporus fimbriatus,
Hypoxylon thoursianum, Pycnoporus sanguineus and Schizophyllum commune
