Six strains of Pleurotus spp. (INI8, P15, IB67, 1E136, ECS127 and POROS)
producing fruit bodies of different colors were cultivated on sterile and pasteurized wheat straw. Biological Effíciency (BE)
and Production Rate (PR) as well as fruit body color, size and weight were followed during 2 flushes. Strains IE136 and
POROS produced the highest yields on sterile (132.4 and 115.6 %) and pasteurized wheat straw (109.7 and 102.9 %). All
fruit bodies produced by each strain showed the same color, though those of POROS turned slightly lighter at the second
flush. Average weight of fruit bodies ranged from 5 to 13 g/unit and since POROS produced significantly heavier and larger
fruit bodies than other strains; it could be a good strain for commercial production.
