The aim of this study was to evalúate the use of caducifolius trees leaves as
substrate for the culture of two strains of the edible mushroom Pleurotus osireatus (IBUG-8) and P.
pulmonarias (IBUG-4), on account of the abundance such wastes in parks and lawns. A biological efficiency
of 66.98% ± 7.45 and 37.6% ± 6.67 was found for strains IBUG-8 and IBUG-4 respectively. On the other
hand, dry matter degradation of leaves was 35.7% ±5.33 for strain IBUG-4 and 31.8% ±4.22 for strain IBUG-
8. These results indícate that the substrates utilized in this experiment produce similar yields to those obtained
from sugar cañe bagasse, leaves of sagar cañe and coffee pulp.
