Abstract

There is in Mexico a native range of names in Nahuatl or in other Indian languages,
as well as in Spanish to name the white edible mushrooms. One of them, in the state of
Hidalgo, is the "paton white fungus", that was identified as Pleurotus albidus, is the first record
of the species in Mexico. Cultural relevance of this fungus in the region of the Huasteca and its
potential source as a handling and use of the natural resources are also discussed.
