Abstract

During produetion of tequila a typieal Mexiean liquor, great amounts of Agave
taquilana Weber bagasse are produeed, most of which remains unused. Such bagasse is
a good substrate for Pleurotus cultivation. About 130 kg of mushrooms per ton of
fresh substrate eould be obtained. P. ostreatus showed a biologieal efficieney of
60.2 %and f· floridanus of 64.7 %.
