Cultivation of a wild Guatemalan strain in the laboratory

Abstract

The present work shows the macroscopic and microscopic features of a GuateaalaD
atrain of Volvariella bakeri (Hurr.) Shaffer obtained in the laboratory from a
wild apeci .. n on citronella bagasse (Cymbopogon sp.). The optimal temperature of
arovth vas 32-35 •c, and the best solid culture medium was the complete medium
following Chang formula. The mycelium was cultivated at laboratory level on different
agricultural wastes, such as citronella bagasse, wheat straw (Triticum aeati!
JIV, cardamom pulp (Elettaria cardamomom), sugar cane bagasse (Saccharum offiCina~
and coffee pulp (Coffee arabiga), where the first three were the best.
