Abstract

Two mexican strains of Volvaríella bakeri (Murr.) Shaffer and a foreign
strain of Volvaríella volvacea (Bull. ex Fr.) Singer were studied under identical
conditions at different temperaturas. Macro and microscopical characterization of
the colonies were described for all temperatures. The óptima! temperature for
growth of V. bakeri and V. volvacea was 32.5°C. The gross morphology with
regard to texture, density, and color of aerial mycelia of the colonies were similar
for both species. Likewise, microscopic features of hyphal diameter, and size of the
swollen chlamidosporebearing cellswerealsovirtuallyidentical. Based inthisstudy,
it is supposed that v. bakeri is a synonym of V. volvacea.
