Considering three fatal mushroom poisoning in a community of the Valley of
México, the present work was carried out to study the toxic and edible fungí in such
community. Meixner's test, chromatographic analysis and bioessay of suspected fungi
revealed toxic properties of Amonita flavoconia, Stropharia coronilla and Amonita cokeri.
Any species of Amonita phalloides group (A. phaíloides, A. virosa, A. verna and A. bisporigera)
was recorded. For the prevention in this place of future poisonings, we discuss the
importance of amanotoxins as chemotaxonomic and toxic markers, as well as the use
of bioessay as a measure of toxicity of the studied species. It is reported for the first
