Abstract

The spores of seven species of Gyromitra were studied, Three belonging to
subgenus Gyromitra: G. ambigua, G. antarctica and G. montana, and four to
subgenus Discina: G. caroliniana, G. korfii G. martinii and G. spinosospora. Six of the
seven studied species were analized from type material. The study at scanning
electronic microscope showed a clear separation between the species of the two
recognized subgenera: perisporium finely rough in Gyromitra and perisporium
definitively ornamented in Discina. A new spore ornamentation pattern is added to the
four currently recognized in the genus.
