Lignicolous marine micromycetes from Barra de Navidad coastal lagoon, State of Jalisco, Mexico

The abundance of lignicolous marine micromycetes from Barra de Navidad coastal lagoon, State of Jalisco. Mexico,
was investigated. Test panels of Avicennia germinans, Pinus sylvesrris and Rhizophora mangle were submerged in
the intenidal region for five weeks. Aller the submersion time tlle test panels were kept in clean sterile plastic bags
and returned to tlle laboratory, where they were rinsed -..i tll sterile sea water and incubated during 12 montlls at
25°C in sterile plastic boxes. The total number of fungal observations were 156 from 94 of 141 wood pieces
examined. The most abundant fungus was Halosphaeria quadricomuta followed by Zalerion varium, Lulworlhia
spp .. L. grandispora and Humicola alopallonella. Zalerion varium is a new record for Mexico.
