Cell wall composition of spores from Phycomyces blakesleanus mutants S-347 and S-377

b.taRe.~.>.te.e.anu.~.>, mutants S-347 and S-377 with spontaneous ge rmi nation
was st udied. The most prominent materials found were po lysaccharides,
21 - 25% of dry wei gth . Ana lysis of these po lys acc ha r i de s revealed
mainly the prese nce of glucos e, fucose and mannose; glucose was
68 and 52% of the t otal carbohydrate in S- 34 7 and S- 377 mutants,
r espectivel y. The co nte nt of prote i n was 16.1 and 16%, and the
content of aminos ugars was 19 .8 a nd 16%, f or S-347 and S- 377 ,
r espectively . There are c uan titative di fferences between ce l l
wall s of spores fr om Phyc.omyc.e.~.> b.taRe. ~.>.t e.e. anu. ~.> wild type and
mutants with spontan eous germination.
