Two strains of the hyperparasite Verticillium lecanii (Zimm.) Viegas isolated
from Coatepec Region, Veracruz, were inoculated on the uredinia of Hemileia
vastatrix Berk. & Br. parasiting the coffee leaves. A first inoculation was
carried out by trickling a conidial suspension of both strains of V. lecanii.
There was not a significative difference in pathogenicity between strains. A
second inoculation was performed with 3 different conidial suspension of strain
INIREB-87 according to the sporulation index per uredinium of H. vastatrix.
Infection of the uredinia of H. vastatrix by V. lecanii was induced between
50-69 %, depending on the suspension used.
